My Future

I can't believe her incredible energy. She just finished two years with the Peace Corps in Africa. Now She's filling out an application for law school. She has her whole future in front of her. Her dream is to be a lawyer and help poor people. I'm a little bit jealous of her, but I really hope she's successful.

Where do you hope to be in five years?

I've been thinking about my future. Where I want to go, Who I want to be, What I want to do. I dont know what I should do.

My future is undecided. I really don't know what I should do with my life. I've been thinking about it, but I can't decide. I dont even know where I want to live. I need a job, but where should I apply? My friends tell me to follow my dreams, but I don't know what my dreams are. I'm very jealous of my brother. He knows exactly what he wants to do.

I just want to do something good, my parent gave me so much, and I'm so grateful. But now I want to go out there. I want to help people. I think if I join the Peace Corps, I'll really help people. I'll give something back. [It's a very noble idea].

I just graduated from university. By next year, I hope to have a good job. In five years, I'd like to start my own company be my own CEO. By the time I'm 40, I want to have a lot of money. I the future, I want everyone to know my name. I know all this sounds like a lot, but I've got my whole future in front of me.

Dear Mom and Dad,

This is a very exciting time for me. I'll be graduating next month with my degree in engineering. Dad, I know it's your dream for me to get a job with a big engineering company. Honestly, I'm just not sure that's what I want to do. Mom, I know you're hoping that Julie and I will get married, but it's not the right time. Maybe in a year or two.

My dream is to see the world and use my degree to help people. That's why I'm applying to the Peace Corps. I hope that I can make a difference in some people's lives. If the Peace Corps accepts me, I'd like to work on water projects. People need clean water.

Well, I guess that's it for now. Thank you both for all your help. Talk to you soon.

Love,

Tim

If my father hadn't been so rich and so successful, if I'd had a normal childhood, maybe things would've been different. Maybe I would've been more ambitious, more interested in money. If only...Well, one thing I do know is that I don't want to be like my father. When he was young, my father dreamed of starting his own company and getting rich. And now this dream come true. But is he happy? mm..mm. He's been married five times. He work seven days a week just to make more money. He never stops. Now he wants me to join the family business, but I know if I work for my father, I'll never be happy. You see, my father's a planner. And he always achieves what he sets out to do - always. The trouble is, after he does, then he has to make more plans, then more. It never stops. My dream is simple: Do a job I like, meet a nice girl, get married, and maybe even have children. That's it.

I'm feeling optimistic about my future. We've just met with a financial planner. We're setting up a college fund for our children, and I'm trying to build my investments. By the time I turn 35, I'll have started my own energy business. Before my kids graduate from college, I'll have doubled my profits. Hopefully, my investments will have performed even better than the expected 6% per year. Then my wife and I can travel around the world, even though the price of flights will have increased by 200%. By 2050, we'll have retired and bought a vacation home on Yellow Sands Island. Everything should be okay financially, so my primary concern will be for our health and the health of our environment.
